Black Maple Hill 16 Year Old Premium Straight Bourbon

The Black Maple Hill brand first originated in the 1990s by California Vineyards Inc. (CVI Brands). As a non-distilling producer, the company sourced and bottled whiskey from a variety of now-legendary Kentucky distilleries, including Stitzel-Weller and old Bernheim. The first Black Maple Hill bourbons were bottled by Julian Van Winkle III at Old Commonwealth until the Van Winkle family entered their partnership with Buffalo Trace in 2002. Black Maple Hill then switched to Kentucky Bourbon Distillers (KBD) as their bottling partner. Over the next few years, KBD bottled several age-stated single barrel bourbons and ryes before switching to a 16-year-old small batch product, followed by a non-age stated bourbon until 2011. In 2014, the brand was reintroduced as an Oregon bourbon with no ties to Van Winkle, KBD, or Kentucky bourbon in general. This single-barrel bourbon was bottled by KBD, as noted by the “Bardstown, KY” location listed on the right-hand side of the front label. These Bardstown-era single barrels were extremely limited, and while the source was never disclosed, it is strongly rumored that most of these KBD-bottled whiskies were from pre-fire Heaven Hill distillate.
