This very special Wild Turkey bourbon was released in 1955 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Austin Nichols grocery wholesale company (ironically, Austin Nichols & Co. ceased grocery distribution and shifted all their resources to wine and spirits sales in 1939).
This bottle was released one year after Jimmy Russell started working for the Anderson County Distilling Co. (later renamed Wild Turkey). This bourbon was distilled in 1947, just seven years after the inception of the Wild Turkey brand and its signature 101-proof bottling strength. The hand-blown crystal decanter was produced by Hovmantorp in Sweden and is rumored to be hand-painted. This bourbon carries an 8-year age statement and is bottled at 101 proof.
Wild Turkey Anniversary Package 8 Year Straight Bourbon (1955). Hand blown crystal decanter by Hovmantorp (Sweden). Includes cardboard presentation box (exhibiting quite a bit of toning and staining). Stamp and ribbon seal intact (though minor tearing is evident at points). Stopper attached to neck of bottle (wrapped in tissue paper). Painted portion of bottle excellent. Printed labels good given their age but do exhibit some losses in the foil stamp. 101 Proof. Bottled by Austin Nichols & Co.
